10. 'The Hobbit: There and Back Again.' Director Peter Jackson lost me with last yearâs 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' -- but then he went and won me back with this yearâs 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' as seen above). Can't wait to see what's next. Release date: Dec. 17, 2014.
9. '22 Jump Street.' The first one was such a pleasant surprise, but now the New Orleans-shot sequel arrives with what could be a curse: high expectations. If anybody can raise the bar, however, you'��ve got to think that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum can. Release date: June 13, 2014.
8. 'The Monuments Men.' The studioâs decision to move this George Clooney-directed World War II thriller out of Oscar season speaks volumes, but with a cast that includes John Goodman, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and Clooney, I canât help but be intrigued. Release date: Feb. 7, 2014.
7. 'Labor Day.' The reliable Jason Reitman directs a drama, starring Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet, about a single mother and son who befried a mysterious stranger -- as the police launch a manhunt for an escaped convict. Release date: Jan. 31, 2014.
6. 'Jupiter Ascending.' The always-interesting Wachowski siblings are back, with a sci-fi spectacle about a janitor who finds out that she might be The One. Release date: July 18.
5. 'The Grand Budapest Hotel.' Wes Anderson does the Wes Anderson thing -- that is, tell a story of colorful, quirky characters in a colorful, quirky setting. This time, it centers on Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), the concierge at a European hotel between the wars. Release date: March 7, 2014.
4. 'Lone Survivor.' Mark Wahlberg suits up for a military drama, about a team of SEALs on a mission destined to fail. Peter Berg directs a story that, based on real events, promises to be powerful stuff. Release date: Jan. 10, 2014.
3. 'Her.' Spike Jonze directs Joaquin Phoenix in a trippy romance, set in the near future, in which a man falls in love with his computer operating system. If nothing else, it will be different. Release date: Jan. 10, 2014.
2. 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.' The recent arrival of this New Orleans-shot sequel to 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' only made me want to see it more. Release date: July 11, 2014.
1. 'Interstellar.' Christopher Nolan (shown here on the set of 'The Dark Knight Rises') sends audiences -- as well as Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck -- on a deep-space voyage prompted by the discovery of a wormhole. Yes, please. Release date: Nov. 7, 2014.
